Finding the sweet spot for safety We also use a diffused reflector. Instead of a laser-like beam that creates those annoying “hot spots” on your skin, the light bounces off a matte aluminum housing. It spreads the warmth out, which means your eyes aren’t taking a direct hit of intensity. But there’s a catch with the power. If you try to cram too many watts into a tiny space just to make it heat up faster, the filament gets too hot. When that happens, the light shifts back toward that harsh blue end of the spectrum, and the filter can’t keep up. That’s why we tune these units to run at a steady temperature.
